You may have noticed we haven't had much to report from the Rad Calendar for a few weeks, well that all changes now as we kick off the May birthday celebrations with Tony Hawk, born on this day back in 1968!
Tony has been skating for longer than most of you have probably been on this Earth, in fact he was sponsored by Dogtown Skateboards at age 12, and officially turned pro at age 14, and from there has gone on to become one of the best known names in skateboarding.
He's broke multiple world records, won countless gold medals at various events, and has held the record as the only person to pull off a 900 in completion, a feat he has held with pride since 2001. In fact, he has personally completed the trick 15 times since then.
Tony also became the first person to ever skateboard in the White House, when he secretly brought a skateboard in when invited by Barack Obama in 2009. He was also one of the first people to ride a prototype hoverboard, rode is skateboard in zero gravity, and has a strew of skate-related brands he has built up, including Birdhouse, RIDE Channel, the Tony Hawk Foundation, and the hugely popular Tony Hawk Pro Skater series.
He's also appeared in a number of film and television shows as a skate double or extra, which include some great titles like Thrashin', Lords of Dogtown, The Simpsons, xXx, and Seasme Street.
Has he done anything else cool? Yes, he had Rancid play at his third wedding on a heart shaped island near Fiji.
Has he done anything uncool? Well his son Riley Hawk got Aston Kutcher to prank his old man for Punk'd, which did result in a grounding. Drag, Tony.
But regardless, we class Tony Hawk is a most radical of dudes. Stay good, Tony.
