Cycos be psyched today, for on this day in 1983, Suicidal Tendencies' debut album, Suicidal Tendencies was released.
A good debut album sees a new band testing the waters, making wee ripples of sound comfortably and just seeing where it takes them from there. A fuckin' solid debut album however sees the band burst onto the scene and just start tearing shit up, with total accuracy of what they'll forever be all about - that's Suicidal Tendencies, man.
The album clocks in at just under a half hour, and that is a hell of a half hour of power from the Californian thrashers, who rage and snarl their way through 12 tracks of sheer pent up adolescent fury.
The album has been regarded as the leading cause of thrash metal's inception, with all members of "The Big Four" citing it as inspiration for their music. The biggest track of them all is the radical Institutionalized, which has been played and paid homage to in film, TV, and other songs, specifically the Pepsi line above all else.
There's even rumours that the FBI approached the band before the album dropped demanding they change one of the song names, but really those stuffy squares were probably just trying to stop them from releasing such a sweet ol' piece of thrash upon the world.
