Gimme some of your attention for a moment, baby - it is Bruce Campbell's birthday, who was born back in 1958!
Bruce has landed starring roles in some of cult film's most cherished titles, from his iconic portrayal of Ash Williams in The Evil Dead series, to his fantastic work as Elvis Presley in Bubba Ho-Tep.
Bruce has often been opted for high profile roles in films by his long-time friends Sam Raimi, Joel and Ethan Cohen, and others; however studios for some reason have always had it out for Bruce for some bizarre reason, costing him a number of huge roles for simply not being "Hollywood" enough.
Some of these include Jack Traven in Speed, Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park, John Nada in They Live, Edward Lewis in Pretty Woman, Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, and Louis Creed in Pet Sematary - the latter of which would have been a perfect match seeing as Dale Midkiff pretty much went full Campbell in the '89 film adaption's climax.
Almost all of these roles were leading roles, and in most cases Bruce was always considered as first choice, but for whatever reason he was denied them. Fuckers.
At the very least, Bruce has managed to snag a huge number of cameo appearances in blockbuster films, popping up in almost all Sam Raimi's movies, the Aqua Teen movie, and bizarrely Cars 2.
Regardless of what Hollywood thinks of him however, Bruce has made a very good name for himself in the hearts of movie fans, which can almost entirely be traced back to his very first film role in the original Evil Dead. His character Ash is one of the greatest heroes in horror, one of the rare heroes of the genre to rival the popularity of the villains.
Anything else that makes Bruce a rad dude? He's an ordained minister who has married a number of fans, one of which dressed up as a deadite for the wedding.
Cool.
