Host and Creator Mark Gatiss.

So you folks might have seen our main man Skip's write up on the incredible League of Gentlemen recently (if not be sure to check that out) and that got me thinking about one of the shows creators and performers, Mr Mark Gatiss. The reason being quite simple, that reason is Horror. If you know anything about this dude then you will most certainly know that this guy loves his Horror. That brings me to the topic of this little article.

So back in October 2010 the BBC released a three part documentary healmed by Mark Gatiss about Horror films and his own personal exploration of Horror and its influences. The show covers the origins of Horror on film, behind the scenes tales and how they came to be and their impact upon the Horror genre as we know it today. The show also gives us an insight into some of the greatest minds in the buisness, featuring in interviews throughout the series are names such as John Carpenter, George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper and many more. In each episode Mark Gatiss digs deep looking at the history of the Horrror film medium, from classic Hollywood monsters to the now legendary Hammer Studio's and beyond. All of the episodes are hosted with such passion for the subject matter with the greatest of love and respect, that you just cant help but sit back and take notice. Mark Gatiss draws the viewers in and takes you on quite the journey, his mere presence throughout is an engaging one, a perfect host for such a show. It is an extremely fun watch and very, very informative for those who have an interest in the subject of Horror in films.

Each episode covers a different period of time in the Horror film world, spanning from the 20s and into the 70s American Horror era, and also the start of the slasher film craze. If this sounds like something you would not mind watching then lucky you, you can view all three episodes over on Youtube. To save you a job I have added links to all three episodes so you can get right into it, no excuses folks, give this gem a watch!

And if that is not enough everybody, Mark Gatiss did create one more show similar to this one, a feature length documentary called Horror Europa with Mark Gatiss, this time though the focus is on European Horror cinema, and includes interviews with Dario Argento and Guillermo del Toro and a great deal more. For viewing pleasure I have also added the link.
